Run checks from your own browser, only when you choose. Compare public IPv4 and IPv6 observations before and after connecting your VPN. Only record a baseline without the VPN if safe on a trusted network; it is optional.

## What the IP check measures

Public IP checks contact ipify or the icanhazip service directly. Those services receive your public IP address. VPNHive does not store test readings; they stay in page memory until cleared or you leave. A missing IPv6 response is not evidence of a leak. A changed address is not proof of anonymity or protection for every app.

## Optional WebRTC observation

The optional check uses Cloudflare's STUN service to gather connection candidates. It does not request microphone or camera access. Cloudflare receives your network address. Local or obfuscated addresses are not automatically leaks; a different public address needs investigation. No candidates is inconclusive.

## Independent DNS check

1. Keep your intended VPN configuration connected.
2. Open [the independent DNS test](https://www.dnsleaktest.com/). The external operator receives your connection.
3. Run its test and compare the observed resolver with your provider's documentation. A different brand may be a resolver partner, not proof of a leak.
4. Ask the provider about unexpected results and review split tunneling, browser DNS and IPv6 settings.

VPNHive does not perform a native DNS-resolver test. HTTP observations alone cannot identify which resolver answered a DNS query.
